American Outline N Scale Model Railroads

 Richmond Model Railway

This wonderful creation is not "N " Scale  neither is it American outline, but it's still a fine model railway!

The Richmond Railway is the Empire of Stephen Marsh Model who takes some pretty remarkable videos of both his  Empire  and mine.

Built in an attic it has as it's theme passenger trains of the early years of this century  with a heavy focus on the High Speed Train services of the East Coast mainline.

As a regular viewer of this site you will be privileged to watch it grow from set track on a wood shelf into a very fine model indeed!

Here you see a selection of DEMU's from the most humble Pacer on the right affectionately known in some places as "the tin-plate Special to the elderly British Grand daddy of Emu's to the  outlines of a "Thumper" on the left

A three Car Thumper Unit dating back to the early 1950's, on Loan to Richmond from Chris Dann of Kitisha Island Railway.

An East Coast HST blazes with light as she has a crew change

The Thumper unit chugs past the express as she still has her all importnt shift change.

Richmond Shed is a busy place being a EWS loco depot.

British Muscle !

          AMERICAN STEAM GALA AT RICHMOND

Last week there was a very special day at Richmond Railway... They held their American Gala Here are some of the dramatic results!

Here Preserved "Daylight" Southern Pacific 4449 a GS4 stands at the head of her special train assembled from a wide variety of preserved cars. Here

The giant 4-8-4 is waved off, the lights switch on, the bell starts to toll and with a mighty roar she moves off!

An Observation car from the Norfolk & Western Railway built for use behind the J Class Locomotive and lettered for use on their luxury "Pocahontas Special"

While the SP's GS4 takes a freight on a photo run by a Sharknose Diesel takes the "Midnight Special Dining Train out of Richmond Station..  A Santa-Fe "Pleasure-Dome can be standing in the yard to the right.

A PRR "F" Unit takes the Dining Train out

A Norfolk & Western "J" Class 4-8-4 stands at the head of her loaned rake of ECML cars.

Rounding a bend on the "J" Class special

Designed as the apex of Passenger steam locomotive design this powerful locomotive was built to haul a 1,000 ton train up a 3% grade at 100mph!!!!

The J Class stand as that most rare of combination's...                   A beautiful  locomotive and a supremely efficient locomotive.

The models are actually Mine {Peter's}

The steamers and the Observation cars form part of a display in my front room and it was wonderful to see them "Strutting their stuff" on Stephen's extensive layout.    The Diesel's are actually part of the present day preserved fleet operated on "The Clear Water Railroad" from time to time.
